Speaker#1: Brian McMillan
Profile: Director-General of the Society of Will Writers & Estate Planning Practitioners (SWEPP)
Topics#1: Estate Planning in UK & Europe
Q1: The role of the Society (SWEPP) is to serve the interest of Will Writers & Estate Planning Professionals & to PROTECT the public; can you help elaborate on that role?
To Will Writers, we ensure members are properly indemnify, properly trained, properly supported, unlimited support on legal & technical aspect. Thus to avoid the public from suffering from bad advice.
To General Public: Members of SWEPP are properly trained to give the CORRECT advice to the public, we also offer FREE Technical Help Line for general public to dial in when they have questions and occasionally to Handle Disputes.
Q2: General Public are in the impression that Will Writing is EASY to do, there are people who DIY their own WILL or copy & modify from their parents WILL etc, what are your comments on the possible pitfalls?
A2: Unfortunately, the 21st century family is more complex & diverse, the issues surrounding this generation is far more complex that in the past. The Solicitor in the UK openly state that they EARN more money from clients who write their own WILL and giving the solicitors more chance to sort out the mess when they die as compare if the WILL is properly written.
It COST MORE to not have a proper WILL like a DIY Will or Copy & Modify Will
The cost can run up to tens of thousands
